Survey of uncivilized behavior of domestic Chinese tourists

This is a domestic survey of uncivilized behavior of Chinese tourists on the Chinese mainland.

The survey, conducted by CNTV asked: “Is uncivilized behavior of domestic Chinese tourists very commonly seen, do you believe it is an individual phenomenon, or have you not paid any attention?”

The survey showed that 96.14% of the people surveyed have seen such behavior almost anywhere, 3.38% believe it is an individual phenomenon, and 0.48% has not paid any attention.

Many ancient Chinese ruins and historical treasures have been damaged permanently by graffiti, and many ancient graves have been robbed and destroyed. This has become a “grave” problem, in both sense of the word, to Chinese archeologists and historians.

Confucianism was supposed to have taught us to respect our ancestors and our elders, whether dead or alive.

According to a November 29, 2013, commentary in the China Youth News, China has a crisis in faith. Materialism has taken command, there is no “spiritual self discipline” and there is no faith, religious or otherwise, and that the Chinese mainland people live with constant anxiety with distorted values.

I say, the Chinese mainland people have been and are still living with constant anxiety and frustration which are all due to brutish administrative restrictions imposed by the government at all levels.

Zhang Yimou, the famous Chinese film director, is facing fines for “having children over the quota” (chao sheng).

A Wang Chuantao used the term “xing zheng bao li si wei” in a New China Daily commentary. The term means “ideology of administrative violence”. He cited the government’s direct intervention in the market, in income distribution, and the government’s mandate “to fine those who do not increase wages for workers”.

To me, this is but another example of this retaliatory mentality of the Chinese people and the Chinese bureaucrats.

Another commentary by a Wu Yuanzhong in Eastern Morning News of December 2, 2013, said that of the 800 cases against the Chinese Communist Party and government offices and agencies of the City government of Zanjiang, Guangdong province, and adjudicated by the middle and upper courts, only 27 cases were resolved and settled according to the courts’ final ruling. Compliance rate of Party and government offices and agencies was a mere 3.35%.

The question was asked: If the government agencies that have been propagandizing the people to obey the law do not even obey the law themselves, how can they convince the people to obey the law?

In mainland China, said the commentator, political power rides roughshod over the law, and the law is powerless against the political authorities.

To me, uncivilized governments and bureaucrats breed uncivilized citizenry.
