A survey says that 73% of Japanese believe China’s impact on the world is negative while 90% of Chinese mainlanders believe Japan’s impact on the world is negative, and while 3% of Japanese believe China’s impact on the world is positive and 5% of Chinese believe Japan’s impact on the world is positive, 93% of Japanese dislike China.  Japanese tourists to the Chinese mainland have lessened over the past three years from 794,700 Japanese tourists who visited the Chinese mainland in 2012 to 516,200 in 2013 and 445,200 in 2014.  On the other hand, Chinese mainland tourists to Japan increased by 84% from 2013 to 2014 to reach 2,410,000.

Older Japanese, those born between 1895 and 1945, are nostalgic about Taiwan.  One Japanese described the reaction of older Japanese when they hear the name “Taiwan” saying:  When older Japanese hear the word “Taiwan”, they begin to cry!

It is said that 12 out of every 100 people on Taiwan are “foreigners”, “foreign brides” and “foreign sons-in-law”, and that one in every 12 births on Taiwan is a baby of mixed blood.  The official count of “foreigners” living in Taiwan is 470,000.  Another unofficial count is that in 2009, there were already over 1 million “foreigners” living in Taiwan.

Chinese mainland “brides” of Taiwanese husbands, such as a “bride” from Yunnan or a “bride” from Xinjiang, as well as a Vietnamese “bride”, a “bride” from Thailand, a Latin “bride”, a British “bride”, a German “son-in-law”, a Pakistani husband and an Indian husband of a Taiwanese woman are all considered “foreigners” on Taiwan.
